Today’s Message From the Universe is asking you to watch your words, in both speech and thought.
I don’t think most people know just how much our words impact our lives. They can create problems out of thin air and keep us firmly mired in difficult situations that might easily be left behind. Words can reinforce unhealthy beliefs about ourselves and others, or be a catalyst for healing. They can push us into dreams come true, or squash every opportunity for happiness. Your words can break or lift someone who is struggling.
I’m not sure there’s a more powerful force known to man. I think most of us have seen what words can do when someone in power misuses them, but we don’t realize that our own words can be just as dangerous - even the words that aren’t spoken.
You know what’s amazing, though? You can have awful thoughts and beliefs about yourself and others, your entire life up to now, and change them. You can train your brain to do better. This is why things like affirmations work - it’s called neuroplasticity. You can create new pathways in your brain that will make healthier thoughts the default.
It starts with a simple pause. When you have a negative thought about yourself or somebody else, question it. Is this thought helpful? Is it true? Is it kind? Learning to identify these thoughts before giving them a voice makes the rest happen almost automatically. Catch the thought, then reply to it with truth and kindness. The more you do it, the easier it gets.
You don’t even have to believe the new, kinder things you say to yourself immediately; you just have to remain consistent in catching and replying. You might find it helpful to make a list of the unkind thoughts that show up most often and work out your replies so that they’re easy to access in the moment.
There’s a little extra emphasis in this message regarding gossip and venting.
You don’t know what someone else is dealing with, what they’ve been through, or why they do what they do. It doesn’t excuse cruel behavior, but it may help you to understand it in a way that supports your own healing. This does not mean that you shouldn’t be angry or hurt when someone treats you poorly, but it will be helpful to recognize when you’re adding fuel to the fire.
Sometimes venting can do emotional harm to the person you’re venting to, and sometimes it can keep you mired in that energy when you might otherwise be able to rise above it.
We are being asked to remember the things that connect us on a human and spiritual level - to remember that many of the awful things people do are based on a lack of connection and resources.
We are being asked to treat others with love and compassion, even when they infuriate us, and to reach out to and stand up for those who are unable to stand up for themselves. We are being asked to scatter blessings far and wide, even praying for those who may not deserve it. You might not pray for the happiness of an awful person, but you can pray for their heart to heal, or pray that they may not be able to harm others.
These prayers and well-wishes are at least as much for you as they are for them, though. They change your connection to the thing that harmed you. They cleanse that energy from you in a way that I am unable to describe with mere words, but it’s something that I’ve experienced firsthand. It’s the difference between staying angry and hurt, or freeing yourself from its chains.
The world has more than enough hate and anger, so let’s grow more love and kindness every chance we get!
Take care of yourself, beautiful soul, and take care of your neighbors 💙
