Feeling stuck or stagnant? Like you’re living the same day over and over again? Maybe your relationship feels strained and needs a little spicing up, or you’re feeling somewhat apathetic. It’s also possible that you must start or have just started something new and feel a little lost or anxious.
This week’s Message From the Universe indicates that this is an excellent time to try something new! The thought of stepping outside your comfort zone may not be pleasant, but actually doing so will breathe new life into you, your relationships, and your environment. Doing new things helps you to think outside the box and tends to have a ripple effect in other areas of your life, even in people who simply cross your path.
Of course, this is a message for many, so the possibilities of what needs new life and how to create that new life are pretty much endless!
If it’s your relationship that needs a little kick, you might initiate a date night or try something new when you get intimate.
And don’t just do dinner and a movie for date night; do things that involve movement and some sort of goal. This might be something classic like miniature golf, or a new twist on an old favorite, like a walk in the woods but made into a sort of scavenger hunt. Sip and paint, go ziplining, or even something as simple as a board game.
For some of you, it’s your home that needs a little updating.
There’s big “purge” energy happening right now as well, so decluttering and organizing will be an excellent way to breathe new life into your environment. Just thinking about it may be a little overwhelming, so just start with the big or obvious stuff, and aim for a few minutes to an hour every day instead of trying to do it all in a day or a weekend.
You may have been thinking about quitting or starting a new habit and might not know how to even begin.
If you’re quitting, put as much friction as possible between you and what you’re trying to quit. Like if you’re trying to eat healthier, you might find it helpful to not get the goodies when grocery shopping, forcing yourself to make another trip. Make sure to load up on healthy but easy snacks like fruit to catch you when you’re craving something sweet.
If you’d like to create a new habit, decrease the friction as much as possible. So if you wanted to start a journalling habit, you might keep your journal where you can see it, and in the place you are most likely to use it. “Stack” this habit onto another one that you actually do every day, like deciding to journal when you have your morning coffee, or the moment you get into bed.
I saved the best for last...we could all do with a little more creating in our lives!
If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard someone say they’re not creative, I’d have a mountain of them! We are all creative. Creating isn’t just painting or crocheting. We use our creativity to cook, garden - even problem-solving is a creative endeavor.
Let’s go back to the painting, crocheting, etc.
So many of us would love to be someone who could do the thing, but we don’t feel like we are naturally gifted, or maybe we tried it, and the results were terrible. Here’s the thing - anything we try will be awful at first. Even the most accomplished artists started out with stick figures and a sun in the corner. You get better with intention and practice. PLUS, nothing you create needs to be museum-worthy.
It’s an outlet for the creativity you stifle and can even be a form of meditation. It’s a release for overwhelming emotions and gives us a boost every time we get the hang of something that we struggled with.
You don’t necessarily even need money to start learning the new thing. There are tons of online and in-person resources out there. For example, I started learning to wire-wrap because I found a little kit in the “Swap Shack” at the dump, and I got yarn for crocheting on my community’s “Buy Nothing” Facebook group.
Renewal is calling, so make sure to answer!
