Today’s Message From the Universe reminds you that no man is an island!

There is this crazy idea that taking care of yourself and/or your family means you should be independent and able to do everything on your own. I’m here to tell you that this is idea is complete bullshit!

This push for and obsession with independence is a relatively new thing, so let’s leave the modern world behind for a little perspective. For as long as humans have walked this earth, our tribes and communities have been the very thing that kept us safe, fed, and sheltered. Everybody had their part to play that contributed to the well-being of the whole.

There’s good reason for the saying “it takes a village to raise a child.”

No new parent knows what they’re doing, no matter how much they prepare for it. Other people who have been there are an irreplaceable resource, not only for parenting, but for any new path we must navigate! Sometimes we need a helping hand, and sometimes we just need someone to talk to.

I remember when my kids were small, how I never felt like I was enough. Every time I had to ask for help was an unbearable pain in my heart. I was always struggling for money, sick, exhausted, hopeless, a felt as if I was failing hard at motherhood and life in general.

I had a tumultuous relationship with my own mother, so asking her for help was even more unbearable. One Christmas, I expressed how awful I felt having to ask for her help. She told me that it was normal and that she had to ask my grandparents for help a lot when we were young.

It doesn’t sound like some big revelation, but it was. It made me feel a lot better at that time, but I understand it on a much deeper level now.

We need each other!

We all have strengths and weaknesses. We all need help with some things, and have plenty to give to others even when we don’t think we do. We weren’t meant to do it all on our own; in fact, it’s not even remotely possible!

If you’re struggling and/or overwhelmed, please consider reaching out for a helping hand, even if you’re sure you can do it without help. Life is so much better when we work together 💙
